A word to the wise:

When you know that you have a caffeine sensitivity, do NOT go out for Indian food for a late dinner, finishing that late dinner with a cup of chai.

I went to bed at 11, and I was awake, painfully, incredibly, EXTREMELY awake, until after 3am.

For a while I was cold, so I put on Andrew's big robe and crawled back into bed. After an hour, I was suddenly (as if someone had turned a switch) very hot, so I took it off. But I didn't stop being hot.

And I had to get up to pee every fucking 1/2 hour. I'm not exaggerating. It was like clockwork.

Surprisingly, I'm up and at work, and I don't feel too bad.

I had such a great weekend.

Friday, as I mentioned, we went to that university pub. I was quite proud of myself - I timed my daily eating in such a way that when I got home, I was able to change into my workout clothes right away, and I did my 30 minutes of cardio and my leg workout.

I was so proud of myself for that!

Andrew made dinner, I quickly got ready to go out, we ate and ran, basically. We got 80 dollars out of the bank machine, thinking that should be more than enough for a night at a university pub, and off we went.

Andrew's friends neglected to mention to us the $7 cover charge. I think I'm a bit of a fogey - I don't usually attend places that are so popular that they can charge a cover like that. $3, maybe.

Anyway.

We had a good time, $6 drinks and all. The bouncer was nice to me, the bartender flirted with me, the waitress liked me... it was funny that way.

And we had a good time with Andrew's friends, too.

But recall - this was a UNIVERSITY PUB. So this means there were tons, TONS of young men and women there who think that drinking is all about having far more than you should, flirting massively (and unsubtly) with each other, making out in corners, you know, the usual.

It was so FUNNY.

There was a boy there that was being set up with the birthday girl. He was a 4th year commerce student who was proud of the fact that he didn't study much, (a typical quote was "I have no idea what I want to do after I graduate - I mean, you go to the Beer Gardens, and you say 'where is person x?' and you don't see them because they're in the library, studying - that's not right"

Uh. huh.

He also had no rhythm. I mean, truly, none. He had this annoying habit of clapping to songs, but COULDN'T KEEP TIME. Eventually I grabbed his hands and said, "ok, no, TO the beat, here you go" and started him clapping, but he couldn't even stay on the beat, he'd soon variate.

Yikes.

But of course, Andrew and I were nice, we just kept our thoughts to ourselves until we got out of the pub, and then laughed long and loud about university students who think beer is more important than school... ah, to have that kind of money to waste on a 4 year education without spending time... oh, I don't know, trying to learn!

Saturday morning was more quiet. We actually SLEPT IN until 11, which is a rarity. We stayed home until 2 or so, and then went to the Bay and registered.

We deftly dodged the Bay credit card they pressed upon us (like I want MORE debt), and got a handy dandy scanner to scan in all the items we wanted to put on our registry.

I think we got a good mix of expensive and not expensive. A vacuum we need, for $90, big fluffy Ralph Lauren towels that are $55, but also $7 pillows and $6 pizza cutter and things, stuff for all pocket-books, and nothing greedy - just things we need and can use.

(because of course many of our friends will be giving us the gift of their sweet selves in our orbits, or may be painting us pictures, or making us things, but they'll also have our Amazon wish list to peruse if they want to go find us a used book or movie that's on the list - I don't need anything, I just want a party)

We didn't want fine china or crystal or anything, but we did find some nice dishes, we thought. The thing is that I have dishes for 4 people - I can't even have two couples over, and the dishes (blue glass from Pier One) have been discontinued. Not a problem, thought I, let's find some cute bright casual dinnerware and put it on our registry.

We found some nice ceramic stuff, called "Blue Jetty", which we placed on our registry, but then once we printed out the registry, we found out that a plate, just ONE plate, costs $37! And a mug, a plain old coffee mug, is $28. WHATEVER. Really. What the fuck ever.

So we're going to take those right back off, as soon as we get back to the Bay.

Sheesh.

So we did that, then we met up with those work people and went for sushi. Really good sushi, too. I think, possibly the best place we've been to so far, in Vancouver. I'd love to go back, if it wasn't in Richmond and difficult to find again. Oh yes, and expensive.

THEN we went out for bubble tea. This was not pleasant. Everything went wrong, here. The waitresses brought everything out slowly, and just could not get us Andrew's order. It took so long that we complained to the manager. Then we noticed a long black hair in one girl's drink (she complained about that, too), and I ordered a hot tea (looking for something without sugar), but it came so sweet that no-one at the table could drink it.

But the company was good. We had fun. We laughed and talked, and although we were all getting kind of tired by the end of the day, it was wonderful anyway.

Sunday was good. We had a tofu scramble dish for breakfast, and did a couple of small things around the house until it had settled, and then we went for our run.

I'm so proud of our run.

We had a little nookie, and a little nap - and I'd just like to point out that you know you've got the right partner when, in the middle of sex, your arm and his armpit accidentally make an armpit fart, he doesn't feel bad when you start laughing uncontrollably, because he's too busy laughing uncontrollably himself.

Then we had a wonderful nap, and afterwards we walked down to the Indian restaurant and had a lovely dinner, a really lovely dinner, actually, and then walked home.

I love my man, so much. I'm so crazy happy in love.

We're talking about some fun things. I think this week we're going to go to the Rep theatre that's within walking distance (same as the Indian restaurant - about 1/2 hour) from home, to see a movie.

Also, Andrew's birthday is coming up. We're (hopefully, if we can get tickets) going to see Noam Chompsky speak on the 21st, and we're talking about going out somewhere for dinner on his birthday as well. I offered to make dinner instead, whatever he wanted, but he said he'd rather spend the time with me, then to have me be busy making dinner.

Isn't that sweet?

Sweetheart.

We're also talking about planning a trip for the end of the year. A real trip, one that costs money. We've never taken a real vacation together before, so we're trying to see what we can do. It depends on how much money I'm going to owe for my taxes, and how much my dad is going to give us for the ceremony/reception, and whether or not Andrew can get a job.

We figure, if he can work part-time somewhere for a solid 6 months, and I don't have to use my 6 month signing bonus for my taxes, then we can go to Europe somewhere for a couple of weeks, maybe rent a car and drive around, see some small towns, do something. I admit, I've never done that sort of trip before, and I am scared and thrilled at the prospect.

Man. Are you STILL reading this?

I can totally relate on the caffeine front. I get up two or three times a night as it is and if I don't cut caffeine by three I'm screwed.

I look forward to bq and I travelling someday.

*sigh*

Yay! I'm glad you had a great weekend and you stayed on plan really well even with temptation. Funny how it's so easy to slide, but when you don't, you feel great! :)

I'm just gonna go answer your last post in my journal, my computer has been really buggy tonight though. :/

How did you find out about Noam Chomsky speaking? I'd love to see him. You'll have to tell what it's like.

There's a free weekly indie newspaper here, and we were looking through and saw some information. Some government group (the ndp, possibly?) had brought him in to speak. That sold out quickly, since that same govt group took most of the seats before they went on sale, but a university group got together and booked another date - that's the one we hope to get tickets to.

I know, I look forward to hearing him speak!!
