I am SO looking forward to this long weekend. Friday AND Monday off, baybee. I can't wait.

Having said that, I had a great weekend, and I'm not hating work yet. It's just that I can't wait to actually have time off.

I really don't understand why our society decided that we need to work 5 days and take off 2. I mean, even if we'd decided work 4 and play 4, that would be alright. Sure, it would mean that our schedules would change - that is, we might start work on a monday one week, and then Tuesday the next, and etc... but once used to it, I'm sure we'd all love it.

Or, you know, what about working 7, then taking 7 off? Or something else?

Ah well. Most people don't know what to do with their free time, I guess, and wouldn't like that much time off.

Yesterday was fantastic. We set our clocks ahead Saturday night, so on Sunday morning we were all set, and I didn't spend the whole day translating time in my head. Overall, it made the switch a lot easier.

We did some cleaning in the morning, and I did some work. I had a bath and read, and then we walked up to Value Village in the glorious sun. Oooooh glorious sun.

Value Village was ok. It was very busy, and everyone was in a bad mood (except us, and, oddly, the cashiers). People were yelling at each other, people were butting in line, people were nasty. I couldn't believe it.

But even so, I found this FANTASTIC dress, that is just a tiny bit too tight (but even so, I could probably wear it now), but is gorgeous. It looks incredible on me, too. Oddly, it's brown.

We also got 4 picture frames, and 2 thingies to put our plants in. Nice thingies, that match the bedroom. I'm really happy with the top of the armoire now, well, the appearance, but now we need to finish the rest of the bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, and the horrific bathroom. Ah, the joys of decorating on an incredibly strict budget. Oh yes, and of being too lazy to scour the cheapo places regularly for deals. Heh. Oh yes, I know it's my own fault.

Afterwards, we went to this East African place we'd wanted to check out. After realizing they had NO VEGETARIAN OPTIONS AT ALL (not even appetizers!), we ordered anyway. And oh my fucking GOD it was delicious. Some of the most delicious indian food I've ever had. Andrew got prawns, and I got chicken (I know, I know, I won't do it again), and ooohhhhh it was heavenly good. A very cute tiny restaurant, a family type business, where the owner walks around and talks to people, and the waitresses make fun of the customers. Well, our waitress made fun of Andrew. I don't know if they usually do that. Heh.

Anyway, it was incredible. Fresh, perfectly spiced, flavourful... it was heavenly.

Then we walked home in that gorgeous sunshine, and my day could have been complete...

But we worked on his jacket for a while. He's been great support, and has helped me figure things out. Anyway, I started sewing the back pieces together, and did my first pleat ever, and that was really something. We discovered that the interfacing we have isn't the iron-on stuff, but is instead the sew-in. Ah well. We'll survive.

And Andrew learned an important lesson about cutting out the longest piece of a pattern before shortening the material you're cutting from. I DID suggest it, but he thought it wasn't important. He figured the material would be long enough. He was wrong. I was upset for a while, but since he doesn't care if the interfacing on the front of his jacket is in two pieces - I decided not to care either. After all, it's his jacket.

Oh yes, and there is also an iron mark on our carpet. Darling Andrew learned two lessons last night. ;)

At any rate, before I knew it an hour and a half had passed, and I was getting a bit of a headache, so I called it for the night. Having learned so much, I feel a lot more confident.

Anyway, Andrew called his best friend, and I made the BEST CARROT GINGER MUFFINS EVAR!!1!11!!!!! and figured out our food order from our organic grocery friends. Before I knew it, it was almost time for bed, and I hadn't gotten a chance to sit and read for a while. So I stayed up late. I'm such a rebel!!!

Oh yes, and Saturday night we saw Hellboy. w00t! It was super cute. And any movie with "Red Right Hand" in it has some cool points no matter what. Anyway, it was one of the better comic book movies so far.

So far as the whatzit, things are coming along ok. My father and his wife are flying in on Friday and leaving on Monday. My mother is flying in on Friday, wants to be met at the airport and taken to dinner and then to her hotel, and wants to stay longer than just the weekend. (I did tell her that we'll be busy the week after, because my friends will be staying, and I want to see them too, but I can see this might be problematic, ALREADY) Olivia and her boi are flying in on Friday night, and staying for a week. So it's coming together.

Oh yes, and we booked the commissioner for Saturday at noon. Andrew's asked his best friend to be a witness, and I've told Aaron and Suzanne that we'll be flipping a coin to see who is my witness.

My mother is going to give us $500 to help with the cost of the day, and we still don't know what my father is going to give us. If he gives more than $500, my mother will match it. If he doesn't, she won't, because she said she'd feel cheated. People's issues with money are so WEIRD. At any rate, if the money from them can cover our rental car, all the daisies, and possibly even part or all of the cost of our rings, that would rock.

I'm actually excited to do some more work on his jacket! Maybe I'll do some tonight. I can't do any tomorrow, because I'm going to a course for work, and I won't get home until 9ish. (yech) So tonight I need to work out, but other than that, I can work on the jacket. Sweet!

Oh yes, and Andrew just called me to tell me that we have escaped the evil clutches of the TELUS beast. We are now Sprint customers. WOOHOO!!!!!

I've often pondered about the 5 & 2 thing. 5 and 2 is SO unfair.

And I have Friday and Monday off, too! But I'm going to NYC! YAY!

Wow. I'm surprised being vegan that you could eat chicken. I'd think it would make you ill now. I know some vegatarians that bend a little, but I was surprised you ate chicken!! Siobhan eats chicken and tofu and not much else in the protein department. They serve steak fingers at daycare - how disgusting does that sound?!?! :P

nah, we're vegan except for fish, which I think I mentioned... but it hasn't been that long - we were vegetarian for a long time, except for the fish and the occasional (< 1x weekly) chicken, before this

And unfortunately, some things are still so tempting for me... butter chicken done well is one of those things. Every once in a while I give in. :( HOWEVER, we did pick up some butter chicken sauce, and I can't wait to try it on tofu. Perhaps then I'll be ok after all. :D

I heard something about how in most European countries it's more common to have a four day work week, and that there are lobby groups actually pushing to have it be a three day work week. They say it would be reasonable because employees would still be payed the same amount and there are more days for them to spend the money the earn, so the economy wins.
I don't really know much about this, but it seems that by "employees", it means people who work nine to five jobs - they're always the ones who get the good stuff. Everyone else would still have to work whatever they're working - someone's got to be in the cafes at 6:30am to get the coffee ready for people every day of the week, etc.

So yah. Something to ponder.

That's the thing though - with a 4 day work week, there'd be less unemployment, because there'd be 2x as many jobs - the same job, twice!

Of course, that assumes that every job has a living wage - but then again, if we're rebuilding the society, why have money at all... small steps, I know. First thing - a living wage for all.
