RUN! RUN!!!!!
Apr. 19th, 2004 11:36 amYesterday we did our very first 10k run!! The Vancouver Sun Run.
We did way better than I'd thought (I don't have a very high estimate of my physical prowess), but not as good as I'd dreamed, or as I realized I could have done.
My upper right leg started hurting about halfway through, which is no big deal. However, it got steadily worse, so I had to stop running altogether. So we only ran about 6 1/2 k, and had to walk the rest of the time.
My time: 90:49. Not bad!!!
Andrew's time: 90:51. He stepped on the start line first and the finish line last, to let me 'win'. What a sweetheart! :D
Anyway, I'm humungo-proud. I'm also sad my leg hurt, because it makes me feel like a wienie.
It does not, at all, make me feel any better (or worse)that after the race, when we walked around downtown deciding what to do for lunch (and grocery shopping), that my leg actually got so painful that involuntary exclamations issued forth from my mouth, and that by the end of the night (even after a warm bath and stretching), I got into the habit of helping my leg move around by lifting it with my hands.
I want to be superwoman, dammit!
So I've got this weird "YEAH I DID IT!" feeling mixed in with "geez, I suck" feelings too.
I mean, yeah, LOTS of people took longer than we did, and actually, I was faster than anyone else at work, but still...
Anyway, my goal for next year is to run the whole way, and maybe shave a bunch of time off. That would be RAD.
I don't know how many times I told Andrew how wonderful he is yesterday. No other man in my life would EVER do this sort of thing with me. No other man in my life ever liked all this stuff - running in a real, honest to god race (even if I took an hour longer to finish than the winner. HEH), or camping, or hiking, or all that other stuff - I'm in heaven. Blissful, loving, heaven.
The rest of our sunday was very restful, though, once we got home. I called family, he called family - we had a nap with the black kitten, we read, we ate our version of butter chicken (butter tofu - well, made with soy yogurt and margarine - we're going to play with it, maybe marinate it more, try it with seitan, that sort of thing), and I had a bath with a lovely lemon and rose fragrance.
Oh yes, and I made oatmeal chocolate cookies. Mmmmm.
I brought 3 cookies to work this morning, and ate them before I'd been here for 1/2 hour. Ooops. Heh.
We went to bed early and I got up an hour later anyway. Hooray for sleep!
I had lots of REALLY WEIRD DREAMS about eating small humans because an evil being that had seeped into my head through a big metal plate, but that I let stay because it felt SO GOOD, made me. And things like that.
I'm in a delightfully good mood.

Date: 2004-04-19 03:47 pm (UTC)Nah, it's not that bad. I felt worse the time we climbed up Frosty in Manning Park... in the rain... wearing running shoes... I twisted both my ankles about 10 times before we got halfway up. And kept going, because I'm a masochist like that. Booyah!
