where there's smoke
May. 21st, 2004 08:38 amI keep forgetting to mention that there's a whole bunch of lavender growing on the hill outside my workplace. I am SO keeping an eye on it. In a week or so I'm going to cut myself a swath to take home - oh yes, I am.
Considering I was busy all night last night, I'm surprised I'm in such a good mood.
ESPECIALLY considering the grocery delivery people sent me spelt pretzels instead of the vegan dark chocolate bar I'd ordered. I emailed them sweetly and told them that, although I'm sure the pretzels are very good, is there any chance they could send me my chocolate bar free of charge next week anyway? I even offered to give them the pretzels back. Heh.
One really cool thing about last night is that when I came home, instead of going inside right away, I stood outside and played with the girls for awhile (without the problematic one). We played clapping games and word games, and it was really fun! I don't know how long I was out there - I didn't check my watch. Not TOO long. But it was super fun.
Anyway, then I went home, put away the groceries, and started my cooking extravaganza. I made blondies for Andrew's brother (it's his birthday on Saturday, and the family is coming into town), and started some brown rice cooking and did the dishes, while the littlest girl stood outside my window and babbled on and on about stuff to keep company. What a cutie. She is, I swear, the cutest kid in the complex. When we moved in, she was SO quiet. She never said anything to us, was so shy, and it was the cats that she warmed to. She eventually got to the point where she could say "Where's Bear?" without running away and hiding, but she never spoke to us the way she is now - not until this week.
I love it. SO CUTE.
I admit, though, I had music on, and I was washing the dishes, and she talks quietly, so I only heard about 1/3 of everything she said. Some things, I have NO IDEA of what she said.
Anyway, then she had to go home, and I made peanut butter pasta with broccoli while I talked to Andrew. And then I talked to his mother for a while (and complained about the chocolate), and then I sent a friend some information, and then it was bedtime - but I stayed up late anyway because I wanted to finish my damn book and the whole night had been go go go go and I just wanted 20 minutes!!
Oh yes, and my best friend from high school emailed me yesterday - she won't be able to make it. I didn't really super duper expect her to be able to get here - she's living, less than legally, in Amsterdamn, and money is really tight for her - but apparently she'd been saving money up, and then something happened with this junkie that's letting them stay at his apartment, and they had to pay a huge electric bill ASAP or else be thrown out on their ear and have all their stuff taken away, and etc etc. She cried all night when she found out. :(
Oh, and the smoke detector is still disconnected.
