My stepbrother is in a punk band. They're SO cute.

On Friday night, they played a show at a local all ages club. I got there just in time to see them.

Did I mention how damn CUTE they are??

The whole young punk scene is weird. I mean, all these underage kids walking in circles and pushing each other (the calmest slam dancing *I've* ever seen), it was just surreal.

I bought a t-shirt.

So I went up close to the stage, you know, where all the fans were standing and bouncing. Another band had already played, so everyone was hot and sweaty.

Normally, in a show like that, when everyone was hot and sweaty, you'd expect to smell sweat, right... maybe cigarette smoke on their clothes, beer, dirt, whatever.

You know what I smelled?

CLOTHING DETERGENT.

My step brother has somehow fallen in with the cleanest cut punk crowd I have EVER MET.

My stepmother keeps talking about him like he's on the verge of becoming an addict and dropping out of school, she has no clue whatsoever. He's excited about going to university in the fall... hell, he wants to be a COP. (I'm hoping he grows out of that). He's a very respectful, sweet, nice guy who's eager to do good things. It's awesome.

He burned a copy of their demo CD for me. It's really quite good.

Why do you hope that your step brother grows out of his desire to be a cop? From the news I hear, we need more respectful, sweet and nice people in the force.

Mostly because I'm unsure that he'd STAY a respectful, sweet, nice guy - as with the military, I feel there's a level of brainwashing that goes on to create a chasm between "us" cops/law enforcers/etc and "them", and I'd hate to see another good person fit into a bad mold.

But for all I know, he'll be someone to break that mold, and I'd love that, and will support him with it.
