no sex for you!
Aug. 5th, 2004 09:15 amI am unreasonably hungry right now. Argh.
Last night was pleasant - I got home first, made dinner (rice noodles with broccoli and spinach, and a simple sauce made from peanut butter and soy sauce) and tea, and once he got home, we ate and chatted. Apparently one of the next door neighbour kids was having a birthday, so they brought over a plate of chips and such, AND two home-made samosas.
Oh my, oh yes, oh my, our neighbours from Afghanistan make some VERY GOOD SAMOSAS.
Yum.
Anyway, I saved mine until after I worked out, but only barely - I couldn't wait any longer. I am seriously thinking of getting the recipe from her, because they were delish.
After dinner, I had a teeny nap and Andrew played Warcraft and ate cake (they apparently came when I was sleeping, so he obliged my diet by eating all of the cake), and then I got up, did some cardio and watched Canadian Idol while doing so...
And can I say, my choices based on last night (because I haven't been watching at all), are Kalan and Kaleb? They were awesome!
And then made these vegan walnut burgers. They're good! Yummy, definitely "healthy tasting", but I like that. They have a grated beet and a grated carrot in them, which leads to them looking sort of like slightly raw ground beef, and that has been TOTALLY throwing me off. Heh.
While I was making the burgers, my brother showed up. I fed him a walnut burger, and talked to him AGAIN about vegetarianism and protein (he still tends to insist that you can't get total protein from beans), fuelled by the fact that Andrew took home this awesome little book from the thrift store last night, called "What's wrong with eating meat?", made in the 70's. It's awesome! Anyway, I think he finally heard me. Not that I think my brother cares, morally, about his choice in food... but as long as he believes me when I say I'm getting enough protein, it's a start.
He went to bed early, and Andrew and I stretched and went to bed.
And I must admit - having my brother in the bedroom next to us, knowing that he and his girlfriend have definitely broken up as of Tuesday, and knowing that he's upset and everything that goes with that... well... it kinda makes me feel bad when Andrew and I are giggling and playing, or making out, or... well... yeah. So no sex. :(

Date: 2004-08-05 10:05 am (UTC)Jacob was... not my thing last night. I dunno. Maybe it was the song. With luck I'll get to see a couple more episodes, and I can see more of him. I REALLY wanted to like him, too. I'm all about boys with visible piercings.
I was really disappointed in the girl who did Janis Joplin last night. I mean, Janis was all about rawness and emotion, and that was NOT what I got from her.

Date: 2004-08-05 11:43 am (UTC)1/4 lb medium tofu
1/4 cup hazelnuts
1/4 cup braggs (or soy sauce)
1 tbsp flour
1/4 cup water
Blend first three ingred in food processor until smooth, add flour and water and blend until well mixed and smooth.
2-3 cups ground walnuts (I used 2)
1 cup cooked rice (I used brown basmati)
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 small onion, chopped
1 small carrot, grated
1 small beet, grated
Mix together with the first batch of stuff. Then make into patties, dredge in flour, and fry on medium high heat (they say with a bit of oil) for 5-10 minutes, until brown on both sides. (I skipped the dredging with flour part, and they were fine)

Date: 2004-08-05 11:55 am (UTC)Apparently, according to the book, these freeze really well. Also, they're a little bit fragile, especially if you're used to flipping meat, but not TOO fragile.
And they are, they are SOOOO yummy! Especially the day after. I think the flavours melded a little overnight.
