Another drooly post for Saby... :P
Aug. 9th, 2004 09:41 amWhat a fantastic weekend! Just what the doctor ordered, I think.
Friday night Andrew and I met up after work to go to this new-to-us vegan chinese food restaurant. We had an appetizer of fried cashews, and got a sweet and sour shitake mushroom dish, and a rolled bean curd in black bean sauce dish.
MMMMMMMM yummy.
The fake meat store next door closed at 6 (we got there closer to 7:30), so instead we walked to chinatown (about a half hour walk) in the light drizzle (the perfect time to be in the rain, we decided, because it's enough to keep you cool, but you don't get drenched) to another restaurant that sells fake meat, and got some 'fish' balls and veggie balls and 'prawns', and a huge bag of big pieces of soy protein, all for $14 total.
Saturday
On Saturday Andrew went to work, and I made the pillowcases. Finally, I made the pillowcases! They're wonderful, they're on the pillows, I love them. It was time consuming - there always has to be one that I accidentally sew a piece the wrong way and have to rip the stitches and resew, and the bobbin ran out of thread twice, but it got done, and I'm so glad.
After that, I rested a bit, then made hummus (mmmmm hummus) and got dressed to go out and meet Andrew so we could meet up with
kirithebrave and
sabyorange for a night of fun and frolic.
I rushed a bit to get out the door on time, because I worried I'd miss the bus, but ended up waiting instead. Then Andrew was waiting in front of the store for me, so all I had to do was wave at him and he got on the bus instead of me getting off and us waiting for the next one, hurrah!!
Anyway, so we went to kiri and sabys place, and I had a BALL.
It was awesome!!! I was kinda worried, cuz, you know, I'd never met saby before, and kiri I knew through someone I don't now have contact with, who I don't WANT to have contact with, so I didn't know if kiri and I would have any connection or what.
But we had a BLAST. We drank wine and ate hummus (and they liked it!), and talked and talked and talked, and then went to the store to find something to mix our rum with (we decided on Sobe pineapple/coconut 'juice'), and veggie pizza, and talked and talked and talked, and then ran down to the beach to watch the fireworks, and THEN went back to their place and played Pictionary!! (and, may I add, the book snake lives forever on...)
It was AWESOME.
Andrew and I left just in time to catch all our connections home, and fell into bed around 2:30am.
Sunday
Yesterday Andrew went to work again, and I did some stuff for work, only happily, from home. My brother was preparing for his hiking trip (he's decided to take the trans-Canada trail for as long as he can, 2 weeks, whatever), which he left for this morning, so I decided to cook a feast for dinner.
We had hummus with pita (I had to make more hummus!), dahl with rice, and this awesome green bean recipe made with garlic and mustard seeds and red chili, and peppermint chai (made the long way), and cinnamon-chocolate cake for dessert.
I had so much fun! I got to spend the entire afternoon in the kitchen, and my brother was there the whole time, packing and such, so I had company, and we had music, and it was good times.
The evening was taken up playing Icewind Dale. I <3 computer games. :D
The only scary thing is that over the course of the afternoon there were 4 wasps in the living room. Always in the living room, and always near the door/window. I really really really hope they came in through the door, because all night I kept worrying they were crawling in from the kitchen fan or a crack in the wall or something, and that gives me some serious heebie-jeebies. I'm afraid I'm going to find wasps in the bed and wasps in the toilet and wasps wasps everywhere....

Date: 2004-08-09 01:32 pm (UTC)i am assuming the second place you tried, to buy fake meat from, was the buddhist vegetarian? out of the two, i prefer their food and the atmosphere. it is also much cheaper!
how dare you go make new friends when my back is turned?! ;)
can you two come over on wednesday night for sangria and tapas? it is a small gathering over here, with plenty of food and wine. see my most recent post.

w00t!
Ok, anyway, that's that.
Yes, it was good! I prefer Buddhist too, they ARE cheaper, and the atmosphere is different. I felt like the people at Bo Kong were a bit more chi-chi, and I am so NOT chi-chi...
