We got to go for a nice long walk last night. So wonderful! We went in a direction we don't often go in, and wandered around looking at houses. I love looking at houses, and critiquing them - as long as they aren't all new boring cookie cutter homes with blank front yards.

We went on an adventure, too! We found these stairs and decided to see where they went. As we went up, they got progressively more overgrown and covered with old leaves, and then we got to the top... and there was nowhere to go!

Heh.

So we climbed back down and went on our merry way.

It was a pleasant walk - right at that perfect time of evening, when the sky is getting darker, the wood smells stronger, and a hush falls over the neighbourhood. It really is my favourite time of day.

We walked for over an hour, and stretched when we got home.

I am SO tired today. My body is creaky and sore, and my head is a little Blargh.

I've decided to start the Bill Pearl workout on Monday.

It was a difficult decision, but we've decided to start drinking unfiltered tap water.

Something had to go.

We used to have a brita filter, but it sprung a leak and got moldy, so we tossed it right before the whatzit.

For the whatzit, we bought a bunch of big refillable water containers (because it was such a hot day) for the reception guests. Because a refill was so cheap ($1.99 for 11.9 litres, $2.99 for 19.8 litres), we decided to try buying our drinking water for a while, and see how much we actually drank. The only downside - carrying those fuckers back up the hill from Safeway.

We'd pretty much decided that that downside is too big of a downside - so we looked at other options, and a brita faucet filter thingie is $52 (including a filter), and the filters (needed every 4 months or so) are $17. We thought - perhaps...

Andrew found $50 on the street last week. It seems perfect, does it not?

But we're over-budget on food for the month, because we were feeding my brother in July and August. So we need the $50 to cover that.

*sigh*

I started drinking filtered water in University, when I moved to Waterloo and the water made me nauseaus and dizzy. And then, in Toronto, well, it sure as hell made sense to filter my water there.

But, everything I've heard suggests that BC water is cleaner than Ontario water. So we're going to drink tap water for a while and see how that is.

Man, that was boring. Sorry.

Not boring to me! I love reading the nice things about everyday life!

I dunno if you want to look into another Brita, but I know President's Choice has refillable filters for MUCH cheaper than the Brita ones. You buy a plastic thinger that fills up with the filtering sand and you buy 3 packs ov sand for something like $7 methinks. At any rate, something to consider.

Thanks for the info! We'll look into it. I think we're still going to try tap water for a while, and then we'll see if we notice any adverse affects.

Of course, we could just boil all our drinking water, too... that'd be cheapest.

*yay* bill pearl rocks! i'll be curious to see if you like it as much as i do!!

we keep meaning to buy a water purification system for our house. but then we go and price the reverse osmosis systems and have a heartattack over the price and then we stop talking about it for awhile. one of these days...carrying water jugs up our stairs is also hell.

yeah, I'm looking forward to it!

One of the reasons I think I'll like it is because I do tend to get bored by workouts if they're the same old thing time after time. And I like what he says about not working to failure, AND I like that he's put his workouts online for anyone to view!

And, uh... yeah. I'm with you on the stairs. Yikes!

Maybe just another Brita pitcher, for the meanwhile? They're not too pricey.

I do not like tap water either. Yeech. I can't stand it!

Thanks, yeah, we're going to think about getting some filters or something - we're just going to try tap water first. Heh. We even talked about boiling all our water instead.

Tap water in Vancouver is actually pretty good - especially compared to the stuff in Toronto, ACK BLECK YUCKY

No...not boring at all...actually, that's the joke we have about Memphis water...it really does *stink*. And it's like that, throughout the city, according to the leasing manager. Not sure about that, really, but I've been looking at Brita water filters, and you are dead right...they ain't cheap. We've been buying Wal-Mart water in gallon jugs. They generally run $.54 a piece and we go through 3 a week.

It adds up.

I loved the stairs thing...you two seem like you have a lot of fun for being poor...:)

I never had a problem with tap water until I moved into my house, the water there is GROSS.. like, no way in hell will I drink it. Now that I've been drinking store-bought water for 4 years, I can't drink any tap water. I'm so spoiled but sometimes I think, at least I'm spoiling myself on something healthy & clean like water ;)

I actually don't mind Toronto tap water, and I grew up on water-softened well water in the country. Having said that, I filter my water since the pipes in my building are probably 60 or 70 years old. Depending on which tap I use, my water comes out clear, or with a slight orange or green tinge only visible if large amounts are poured into a white container. When I draw a bath the water has a healthy green glow accumulated from the copper pipes through which it travels.

Vancouver does not add fluoride to its water and so, depending on who you ask, it may be healthier for you (http://www.wholywater.com/fluoride.html) than Toronto water.

Thanks for the link, that's very interesting...

Especially since I was under the impression flouride was added to water to keep teeth healthy, and yet, they say it has the opposite effect... hmmm.
