water? we don't need no stinking WATER
Aug. 24th, 2004 09:00 amWe got to go for a nice long walk last night. So wonderful! We went in a direction we don't often go in, and wandered around looking at houses. I love looking at houses, and critiquing them - as long as they aren't all new boring cookie cutter homes with blank front yards.
We went on an adventure, too! We found these stairs and decided to see where they went. As we went up, they got progressively more overgrown and covered with old leaves, and then we got to the top... and there was nowhere to go!
Heh.
So we climbed back down and went on our merry way.
It was a pleasant walk - right at that perfect time of evening, when the sky is getting darker, the wood smells stronger, and a hush falls over the neighbourhood. It really is my favourite time of day.
We walked for over an hour, and stretched when we got home.
I am SO tired today. My body is creaky and sore, and my head is a little Blargh.
I've decided to start the Bill Pearl workout on Monday.
It was a difficult decision, but we've decided to start drinking unfiltered tap water.
Something had to go.
We used to have a brita filter, but it sprung a leak and got moldy, so we tossed it right before the whatzit.
For the whatzit, we bought a bunch of big refillable water containers (because it was such a hot day) for the reception guests. Because a refill was so cheap ($1.99 for 11.9 litres, $2.99 for 19.8 litres), we decided to try buying our drinking water for a while, and see how much we actually drank. The only downside - carrying those fuckers back up the hill from Safeway.
We'd pretty much decided that that downside is too big of a downside - so we looked at other options, and a brita faucet filter thingie is $52 (including a filter), and the filters (needed every 4 months or so) are $17. We thought - perhaps...
Andrew found $50 on the street last week. It seems perfect, does it not?
But we're over-budget on food for the month, because we were feeding my brother in July and August. So we need the $50 to cover that.
*sigh*
I started drinking filtered water in University, when I moved to Waterloo and the water made me nauseaus and dizzy. And then, in Toronto, well, it sure as hell made sense to filter my water there.
But, everything I've heard suggests that BC water is cleaner than Ontario water. So we're going to drink tap water for a while and see how that is.
Man, that was boring. Sorry.

Date: 2004-08-24 09:37 am (UTC)I dunno if you want to look into another Brita, but I know President's Choice has refillable filters for MUCH cheaper than the Brita ones. You buy a plastic thinger that fills up with the filtering sand and you buy 3 packs ov sand for something like $7 methinks. At any rate, something to consider.

Date: 2004-08-24 09:40 am (UTC)we keep meaning to buy a water purification system for our house. but then we go and price the reverse osmosis systems and have a heartattack over the price and then we stop talking about it for awhile. one of these days...carrying water jugs up our stairs is also hell.

And, uh... yeah. I'm with you on the stairs. Yikes!

Date: 2004-08-24 10:30 am (UTC)Vancouver does not add fluoride to its water and so, depending on who you ask, it may be healthier for you (http://www.wholywater.com/fluoride.html) than Toronto water.
