Day 1 of working out before work was a success. Today was cardio. I feel quite good as a result, and my blood was pumping nicely by the end of the cardio.

Andrew stretched (and did a very nice head stand!) while I worked out. We watched the first bit of "Kiss of the Dragon", because really, action is where it's at while working out.

Well.

Unless there's a good sci fi movie... or something cheesy and 80's, in a good John Hughes kinda way...

Anyway, so that was good.

I'm reading William Gibson's "All Tomorrow's Parties" while on transit, this week. I enjoy it, but what I like the most is his imagery. He changes the style based on which character he's following, and it really comes across for me.

I spent quite some time making dinner lists for the folks we'll be having over, and for the picnic we'll be having.

Oh, that reminds me: I need to call Kiri and Saby to see when is good for them to come over for dinner.

Anyway.

For the picnic:

Samosas
Peach Chutney
Doughnuts
Iced Mint Tea

For having Kiri/Saby over:

Jamaiican Black Bean Curry
Queso with tortilla chips
Deep Fried Bananas with chocolate sauce

For having Andrew's family over (for the first time!) for dinner:

Pakoras
Peach Chutney
Gujarati Green Beans
Punjabi Chana
Rice
Almond and Pear Pouches
Chai

The dinner for Andrew's family looks difficult, but it won't be. We'll make the Peach Chutney ahead of time anyway, so it's ready for the picnic. The chana and rice will be made ahead of time, and we'll just warm it up. The Pakoras can be made a LITTLE ahead of time for dinner, and kept warm in the oven, and I can make the crepes for the pear pouches ahead of time too. The green beans are easy, as is the chai. So yeah. YUM.

Andrew's mom is bringing us 20 lbs of organic pears on Wednesday that she found at the farmers market for $20. I'm going to can them... um, sometime?? Heh. Probably on Sunday.

And that, folks, is all the news that's fit to print.

Yum! I love pakoras.

Pears! So divine. Lucky girl! I can't wait until I can can things in the summer. Tomato jam is one of my most favoritest things EVERRRRR.

Do you have a favourite pakora recipe I could try? We're going to make onion/spinach ones from this "1000 Indian Recipes" cookbook I have, but if you have a tried and true recipe....

I've never had tomato jam, what's it like?

I don't have the patience to make pakoras at home. ;) I have some great cookbooks that probably have good recipes, but nothing I have tried.

Tomato jam is wonderful. Not too sweet, but delicious. So incredible. So perfect on hot buttered wheat toast.

and it doesn't taste tomato-ey, or ketchup-y or anything? That's really neat...

Nope. Not at ALL ketchup-y. Think strawberry jam but...earthier. So divine.
