I'm surprised at how excited about my class I am. I didn't realize how much I'd missed school, that I'm excited about doing one little class... and one relating to work, of all things.

Here's the blurb about it:

"Covers the application of Quality Assurance principles to the development of computer software. The course will appeal to individuals who are involved in the growing software development industry and want to meet modern requirements for design, verification and re-usability of software products. "

Who knew?

This afternoon I'm going to go over to the mall and buy myself a brand spanking new notebook to write my notes in. :D

Yesterday was great. [livejournal.com profile] aibrean_owl and her two youngest came over, and we had lunch and hung out and chatted, and it was nice.

And I am learning about being spontaneous again, and that's great, too!

Afterwards, Andrew and I had dinner (bbq tofu, pattypan squash and rosemary-lemon carrots), then we went to the cheapie theatre (who have DECREASED their prices, whoever heard of that??) and watched Hero. Hero is GORGEOUS. Absolutely stunning, really. Sad... but beautifully shot.

On Friday night, I had a massage therapy appointment, and that was just LOVELY. Health insurance r0xx0rs.

I have another one booked for next friday, too. And Andrew got a prescription for massage as well, so he's going to call and make an appointment soon. That's right, take advantage of what you can!

Heh.

I finally did the pears this weekend, they were nice and ripe... maybe even a little too ripe, but that's ok. Anyway, 5 litre jars of canned pears, and a whole dehydrator full of dried pears.

Dried pears are like candy. Yum.

Otherwise, we unfortunately found 2 more bugs yesterday. Ah well. Life could be worse, I guess.

Heh. I didn't think it was veiled at all.

However, I don't mind chinese propaganda... or rather, I mind it exactly as much as US propaganda (i.e. Independance Day), or British propaganda, or whatever.

I'm prepared to accept that each country is going to put out "rah rah" propaganda because at some level, someone there believes it, and they want their pride to be known, and they want to convince other people of the 'right' way to think. I disagree with it - but everyone does it. Everyone, including anarchists, the religious right, the politically left... everyone.

Also, I've read a lot of legends and myths and that sort of thing. Asian, Norse, Western, etc. Overall, have you noticed, that if you're looking for propaganda, you'll see it in all of them? But if you ignore it, you can still get value from the stories. I dunno. You say discuss, I write a book. Heh.

Basically, I liked it anyway, propaganda or not. Still pretty.

Not exactly on topic...

Where did you read Norse and Asian myths? I'm really getting interested in how myths across time and cultures have such a common thread, and am just generally interested in myths... And can't seem to find Norse myths anywhere. Well, except for the kids' section in the library, and I don't exactly want the adapted-for-children version. I haven't even tried for Asian myths yet...

Hmmm. Good question. I started by reading childrens versions, and then in high school, a lot of the stuff I read (musashi's 5 rings, for example) relating to the philosophy of martial arts, had lots of asian stories in it. In University, someone gave me these awesome books about myths. I think, maybe, just check out some bookstores. My books are generally from used books stores, though...

Well, I plan on going to see it for the prettiness, and the fun combat sequences... somehow I doubt that I'll feel the urge to bend knee to the Emperor afterwards. The worst kind of propaganda is the kind that's subtle but pervasive enough to actually change your mind without you really knowing it...

Well, it wasn't that subtle, so you should be okay. Not even particularly persuasive if you don't buy in to the core part of the argument.
