Ah, gorgeous autumn days.

Today I'm at work. It's not that bad, no one else is here and I'm not working TOO hard.

That work entry is still percolating, by the way.

I may actually be getting better. Last night's asthma attack was easier, and I did medicate, and I slept pretty well afterwards. Today I haven't taken any cough syrup, and I'm coughing some... but much less than I was earlier in the week. My nose is stuffed now though. Andrew thinks that's a sign I'm getting better. I'm hoping it is, and not a sign the mucus has decided to stay.

Andrew's been reading through his trusty herb bible to see what things I should be ingesting. Sage (or is it thyme?) is good for asthma sufferers, so the tea he's been making for me has that in it. Also, yesterday we went to Commercial Drive and he bought some licorice root, which is apparently good to reduce coughing. He made me tea with that today, plus, he soaked a root and took off the bark (which is bitter), and I've been chewing on it a bit when I'm at home.

I remember the first time I chewed on licorice root (and no, it wasn't yesterday when Andrew gave it to me).

For a while, when I was younger, my granma used to work at a health food store. I remember going there with my mother, and I think once, my mother left me there with granma. I do remember being quite short, because the till was taller than I was, and everything on the shelves was really really far. Even so, I seem to remember that it was a very tiny store.

I remember granma asking me to watch the till while she ran to the bathroom, too.

And she gave me sesame snaps, I remember that. I think I really liked them.

And she gave me a stick of licorice root. She said, you can suck on this, it's a natural treat!

And I also remember that I liked it.

Anyway, what a segue, eh?

Last night, after going to the Drive, I made treats for tonight (we're going over to [livejournal.com profile] zaftigvegan's house after dinner to watch The Stink of Flesh), yummy cookie things with chocolate, coconut, and nuts. You see, she left her tupperware here when she came over for girls night, and I don't like returning tupperware without something in it. Apparently Andrew's mom does the same thing, so at least he's familiar with it.

Someone gave me back tupperware a couple of months ago, and it had no treats in it! It wasn't until then that I realized I had that particular thing that I do. After all, I don't often have other people's tupperware. I move around too much for that, I guess.

So yeah, after I made the treats, we sat down and watched, of all things, "Resident Evil 2", because we had a downloaded copy of it.

And can I say, just how BAD it is? I mean, Stink is better than that! The only thing Resident Evil had going for it was a) Milla, and b) production value. All the fight scenes were choppy and cut to shit, so I had trouble following it, and they had FAR too much emphasis on her kicking guys who were sneaking up on her from behind. The writing was crap, too. I mean, I know Milla can act, she was great in 5th element, and good in Resident Evil 1. So the Directing wasn't all that hot, either. The zombie makeup was really fucking obvious, I am SO tired of the black motherfucker homey yo, and etc, etc, etc.

We enjoyed ourselves, but a lot of the time was spent dissing the movie. And it's STILL better than Matrix 3.

I haven't gone to the doctor yet, and if I can get past this, I'll make an appointment with her to get a new prescription for my inhaler. But right now, the expired inhaler is working, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting better. But now I know that even if I don't need to use my inhaler for years (usually the case is that I need it about once every year and a half), it's not that my asthma has disappeared (darn!).

i am feeling somewhat better today, too, and yes, my nose also started to get sniffly. what kind of weird ass-backwards cold is this?

i'm looking forward to seeing you tonight though i may be somewhat subdued and our house is likely to be a mess. i just haven't had the energy lately. i did make leon tidy up the basement though. heh.

love!

Licorice root is awesome :)

I didn't really like Resident Evil 2 (or the first one, for that matter), but I had a great time watching it in the theatre (although it's true, the fight scenes are really choppy and blurry). It's one of those movies you have to go to see on the big screen with friends, and get all excited and jumpy when you know a zombie is going to pop out from around a corner.

Glad to hear the asthma attacks are quieting down ...

Would you believe that I enjoyed Matrix 3? I watched it last night; it wasn't as bad as I'd heard it was, though I agree with most everyone that there was WAY TOO MUCH gratuitous fighting. ("Okay, we get it. Humans vs. Machines. It's a war. Now what's Neo doing to stop it?")

I read your review of Hero and it really increased my desire to see it. I should see it soon, since I think it's on its way out of theaters. I'm disappointed Resident Evil 2 sucks so badly.. I enjoyed the first, even though I'm a wuss and can't take even stupid zombie movies. Vampires, werewolves, various undead things, those are fine. Ghosts and zombies really fuck with me, though.

On a totally different note: I, too, fill borrowed food containers when I return them. I was told that was a Middle Eastern thing, but that's not to say that no one else does it. It kinda goes along with the "food = love" idea. As in, "Hi, come on in. You hungry? I can just whip up a seven course meal for you. Three courses, if you're only feeling peckish." The mother of a friend of mine is like that. I've learned, in the 14 years that we've been friends (yes, it's taken me this long to learn), not to go to their house after having eaten. No matter what I do, I'm getting fed, so I might as well actually want to eat when I go there.

Don't wait too long to see your doctor! If only to get a new inhaler, you should see her some time in the not-too-distant future. Outdated meds = bad. Even if they do still work.
