Ok, so [livejournal.com profile] asimplelife posted this the other day, and I made it last night, and it is SOOOOO good. I'm posting the recipe, and then the changes I made.

2 cups milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup chopped apple

Grease the sides ov the crockpot. Throw in all the ingredients and mix well with a spoon. Before heading to bed, turn the crockpot on to the "low" setting.

2 cups soymilk (I use the 'just soybeans and water' unsweetened type)
1/4 cup maple syrup (the darkest least filtered type - I'm sure those who use Stevia could use that instead)
1 tbsp margarine
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats
1+ cup of homemade applesauce (it's what I had)

This recipe is SOooooooo good. We got 4 servings out of it, and I didn't even add extra milk or anything. It is incredible. I'm so glad I get to eat it again tomorrow!

Yum, I eat oatmeal everyday for breakfast and I never ever get sick of it. I make little to-go baggies with dry oatmeal, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt & powdered milk (just a tad, and this can be left out) then add hot water & nuke it at work. It's so much better than the artificial packets they sell at the store.

I love oatmeal too! I eat it often. This recipe though... it came out tasting like dessert. Andrew said it was like apple crisp, only not crisp. It was like oatmeal-for-breakfast... in heaven. SERIOUSLY.

That's a great idea about bringing your own little baggies of oatmeal/etc to work!

That is what I thought when I first ate it too, "Mmmm pie filling goodness..." Perfect for the colder weather too!

Yeah, I always say that my oatmeal is much more like dessert than it is like breakfast. Nothing wrong with that, right? ;) The other day I made it for dessert, I put some frozen fat free coolwhip on top of it and made a "cobbler" out of it.. haha.

Funny, both thyme and nutmeg are spices my family uses fairly frequently, thyme more than nutmeg. Zaatar is a very common spice used; it's a mix of dried thyme, salt, and sesame seeds. Sometimes sumac is added, but that's optional.

I hate cumin. Even the smell of it will put me off.
