I'm content today. It hasn't been long into the work day, and I hope I continue to be content... but I am.

Tonight, after chiro and dinner, my plans include working out at home and a long stretch afterwards.

Sadly, our VCR is broken, and I have a yearning to watch Back to the Future 2, The Legend of Billy Jean, and even Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I don't know when we'll get a new one, either. Ugh. This is what I get for having a love of 80s movies, and little cash.

However, if I'd thought about it, I would have expected it to die soon - our vcr was a used one when my father gave it to me, which was back when I was living in Toronto, several years ago.

I'll have to price some sometime, and talk to Andrew about when we'd like to get another. Hmmm. I also wonder if there are pawn shops around us anywhere.

I just called Andrew - there are a few pawn shops downtown New West, we'll go check those out sometime.

Anyway.

The weekend passed quickly. We went to Andrew's grandparents place on Saturday night, and I picked up far too much chinese food to do so. We got the leftovers though, so that's ok. Anyway, his grandma made a cake, blueberry tarts, jello two-toned pudding, and cookies for us. Oh my god. I didn't have any, and it wasn't hard, exactly... going off sugar is never hard for me, as long as I have my other types of sweets. But I felt guilty that I couldn't make her feel good by enjoying her sweets. The boys ate a bunch though - Andrew had cake and tarts, and Gonzo had one of the jello things and some of the cake. I had licorice tea.

At any rate, when we were waiting for the bus to go home, the boys had a snowball fight, and I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. They were so funny, ducking behind fences and lobbing balls over shelters and all sorts of things. Sooooo funny.

Yesterday was my quiet day.

I made banana muffins for breakfast, eaten with yogurt and home-made canned peaches on the side. Then Andrew went to work, and Gonzo to work out, so I spent some lovely time alone, and I had a wonderful nap. There is something about napping when you know the place is empty of all but you and the cats, that is just that little bit nicer. Anyway, dinner was two different types of salad. One, a warm yam/pecan salad from the vegetarian cookbook that [livejournal.com profile] pennycuts gave me, that was SOOOO tasty. ooooh yum. The other was just my normal salad, with greens and avocado, pear and green pepper, garlic-fried mushrooms and toasted sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. The dressing was [livejournal.com profile] zaftigvegan's ultimate vegan caesar dressing, with all the garlic we had left in the house (I've been sneezing a bit extra lately, and don't want to get sick).

YUM.

My brother loved the dressing, too. I love when he loves my vegan food. Heh. He says he has no problem giving up dairy, but for protein, he would have trouble giving up chicken and fish. He doesn't buy the idea that soy+beans is enough protein, he just doesn't believe he can get enough (he's a relatively sedate protein eater for a body-builder, he feels he should get 80 grams a day, I believe). But I'm working on him, and who knows, he might get won over. At any rate, he knows I won't cook meat for him, and he's fine with it. (After all, he grew up vegetarian too...)

After dinner, I helped my brother with his resume for an hour. It looks pretty spiffy now. I think he's going to create a second version - this one shows that he did a lot of management type jobs, and we're going to tailor the second one so he won't get too many "you're too qualified" answers if he applies to a
labour job (which is what he wants).

Then the three of us trucked over to the community centre. I'm so excited about this community centre - I love that it has a huge pool, and it's this big place with wooden boards everywhere, and it's wonderfully warm and SO CLOSE to where we live.

Someday soon I want to go swimming with Andrew. That's something we used to do a lot, and haven't done since we got here. I love swimming with Andrew.

Anyway, we did cardio and then Gonzo showed Andrew some core building exercises to help Andrew strengthen his back, and I went through my basic lifts for now (just row, pulldowns, chest incline, dumbell shoulder press, leg press and extensions), and then all of a sudden, it was somehow 9:30!

At any rate, home, then bed.

Unfortunately, I didn't sleep well at ALL last night. I woke up every hour. Not that I wasn't tired, because I was - but that I was uncomfortable and had to pee a lot. Ugh. It was extremely unpleasant. I hope whatever this is goes away quickly.

hi! sorry to hear about the vcr, but it's not as bad as you think it might be because vcrs are super cheap now!! check out sales at places like london drugs, zellers or wall mart. brand new ones are going for as low as $40. if you choose to go with a pawn shop, keep that in mind and don't pay more than $20.
~i'll have to get the recipe from you for the yam/pecan salad!! sounds delish. the community centre sounds AWESOME!!!!! as does swimming!!!
~what does your brother think of protein powders as a source of additional protein, ie. added to a shake. there are soy and rice based ones that are vegan. sometimes i have protein powder with my soy milk at breakfast because i try to get protein at every meal and most protein sources turn my stomach first thing in the a.m.

I totally forgot to respond to this! yay for you commenting!!!

As for protein powders, yeah, my brother does use them. he's not currently supplementing with that, probably because of money. he mentioned a soy one, but I think his favourite is a whey protein powder. I have a feeling we'll get to it when we get to it, you know? so we'll see what he ends up with.

And I'm going to email you that yam salad recipe today! hurrah!!
