So last night I worked an extra hour, and then Andrew came to get me and we walked over to the Winrock Mall to use our free tickets to see Lord of the Rings.

This was good for lots of reasons.

  • We've been feeling kinda stressy about money, and it was nice to splurge while not actually having to pay for tickets (we did buy some candy and popcorn and water, and we did take a cab home, since the busses stop running at 9:30, it was close to 11, and I had to get up this morning for work so walking home wasn't a real option. But it was less money than actually paying for the movies as well...)

  • Every time we go somewhere new, it feels like we're claiming another part of the city. It took 40 minutes to walk to the Winrock from my work - not bad at all! And now I know for sure how to get to the credit union, and we can always bike there or to the mall - all great things for our feelings of being settled in.

  • It was really nice to do something different. I like routine... sometimes. But I also like adventure (well Duh, otherwise I wouldn't have moved here!)

The walk was really nice - we talked, Andrew said a lot of intelligent things, and I came to terms with some things about the world. About people, really.

As we were walking, this security guard came out of a building and starting walking in front of us.

At least, we thought it was a security guard. Then we noticed that his shirt was untucked, his shoes didn't look like they fit, and he was stumbling a LOT and walking slowly.

So either he just finished work, and got wasted/high before going home, or he stole the outfit.

Either way, we crossed the street, and watched him as we walked. When he walked out into the street and almost got hit by a car, then stood dazedly staring at the cars until he could figure out how to get past them, well, we were certain he was drunk or high. Fun stuff!

But anyway.

We got to the theatre in plenty of time! The movie started at 7:30 and we got there at 6:40. It was pretty dead, so right away I liked the theatre. I know it's still a corporation, but with very few clients and a small easygoing staff, I felt pretty good about it. We used our free tickets with no problem, and settled down to wait for the movie. Since the one that started at 3:45 still wasn't out of the theatre, we knew we were in for a long movie.

Funny thing - when it ended, I didn't want it to be done.

So we chatted about Andrew and school, and various other things. Since he's had all this extra time, he's been online a LOT working towards finding out what he could do for school. He's thinking Political Science, and UBC looks interesting, and UWaterloo is a prospect.

Then the ads, then the previews, and then the movie started.

Oh how I loved it!!!!!

The huge war scenes made me cry - I know it's only a movie, and a fantasy one at that, but I know that war happens. And war is just a game of chess between superpowers, with their subjects as pawns. When I read the books, I skimmed the war parts... I didn't need the indepth study of such things. I'm too empathetic. And I already know that war is wrong... might is not right. The war scenes just reminded me of real life, I guess.

I was really happy with the changes they made, too. I think it's important to keep Aragorn as a good guy, with no blemishes to his character, so showing flashbacks of what happened with Arwen was a good way to do that, I think. To bring home that she left and because of true love he told her to go. And sweet things like that. That way, the obvious interest between him and the blonde is not "wrong".

And Pippin looks like Aaron! It was so neat to keep seeing my best friend there. The mouth, and lines around his mouth. His nose. Even his eyes. And Aaron has had hair like that. *sigh* It was nice to spend some time with my best friend!

Anyway. Just like the first one, I didn't want it to end. Gollum was incredible. The scenery was incredible. The story is (of course) great. Everything. And Legolas. I can see why so many women are into him. I mean, he's hot, and he can surf down stairs on a shield while shooting arrows. And joke with Gimli. And joke with Aragorn. And apologize for getting angry... man. I want an elf.

What a fun night.

It makes no sense whatsoever to bill taxi customers $0.50 for each additional customer over ONE. Perhaps over 3, sure.

And really, for the good of the environment, shouldn't taxis charge us for customers UNDER 3? To encourage carpooling?

But anyway.

Last night I had a dream that was so obviously about Andrew. There was a monkey in a knight's outfit, with really really really long arms, who was infatuated with me, and who I didn't believe was a monkey, but then I did, and we kissed.

Monkey love
