I have been wandering in a daze today. Still processing yesterday's conversation, I imagine.

I did some grocery shopping on the Drive, and stopped at "The Living Source" raw cafe. I got a chai smoothie, seed/nut cheese with flax seed crackers, and a mini pizza thing. Everything was intensely tasty. I took half the cheese, more crackers, and another pizza thing to go for Andrew. I didn't even try whatever their dessert was.

And [livejournal.com profile] rawrin, if you get a chance to try Larabar's "Ginger Snap" bar, DO IT. I think it's a new flavour (along with "Cocoa Mole", which I haven't tried yet) and it tastes like ginger cookie dough. It's sooooooooo goood!

Anyway, then I came home and had a nap. I didn't feel so hot. A general all around oogie feeling. Too tired, I guess.

Our new friends called me, to say that a 2 bedroom apartment opened up in their building. Since they live right near commercial drive, Andrew and I are very interested. I called the manager, and I've made an appointment to see the place on Wednesday morning at 10:30.

It seems like it's coming out of nowhere, but the idea of living closer to work and organic foods is exciting. The place will be smaller, but the 1 bdrm apartment our friends live in is actually quite spacious. And it's actually CHEAPER than where we live now - not something I expected from apartments in Vancouver.

They're renting it out for June 1st. What we're thinking is we'll pay for rent in two places for June - after all, we have to give 30 days notice at our current place anyway. This way we can paint our new place before moving anything in, and we can also move in in a leisurely fashion, AND even repaint this place, if we want (not that I think it's worth it, but...)

Anyway.

I'd miss this place, even so. It's the longest I've lived somewhere in a long time. A year and a half. That's kind of sad.

But I won't miss the many problems it has.

Unfortunately, we'll still not be able to get a dog, and I still won't get to have a garden... but overall it's an improvement. I'll get another hour (at least) in my workdays, for example.

Well, we're off to call our new friends to ask them some of our important questions (shower, water pressure, bugs, landlord, any problems, etc).

Ginger Snap?!!!

I'm gonna look tomorrow and see if they have that at Harvest! If not, I'll go to Whole Foods on Wednesday and look. If Whole Foods doesn't...I might have to order a case.

I might even like Ginger Snap more than Cherry Pie.

well, when you suggested cherry pie, it was my favourite, until ginger snap, so yeah...

if you can't find it, let me know - I'll send you some!

I checked both stores and there was none :(

I just might buy a whole box of the stuff though.

thanks! I'll take a bunch of pictures, of course.

I'm excited at the idea of living closer to work, I could get a whole extra hour in my day! I mean, life could be quite different.

You guys are kind of outside the city now then? I gathered as much from bits and pieces of things you've said, but I never really knew for sure.

We lived in the "outskirts" for four years here in boston, but now after being right in the middle of fremont I'm not sure I could ever go back. I like city and I like remote, but anything in between is just frustrating!

yes, we're in Burnaby, near New West. We have to take a bus (or walk) to get to a skytrain station, in order to get downtown.

I agree, I definitely feel the same way - I want super remote, or in the city. Up until now, I've felt ok about living where we do because the money is cheaper, and we just didn't go out much... but I don't think I could handle many more days of commuting over an hour to work and back.

i always wanted to live near or on the drive! it's such a great neighbourhood with access to so much awesome stuff. i hope it works out for you. but moving sucks!

yeah, moving sucks! I'm glad we have friends now though, because if we could even get just two other people to help us move, it would be a tremendous help.

They live on East Broadway, just a block and a half from Commercial! It's droolerific. We've been wanting to move to somewhere near a skytrain station, at least, and this is definitely near a skytrain station...

Wanna hang out soon? It's been forever since I've seen you. *pouts*

And if you can save this much time, you have to take it!!!
I will get my fingers crossed that you will get it!!!
=)
I would also love to have a dog. But my parents do not wanna watch it while we are at work and I do not wanna leave it for 9 hours a day.... sniff

well, maybe you will win the lotto and be able to stay home all day, and then you can get a puppy! :D

Thanks for crossing your fingers! I am going to take a bunch of information with me tomorrow, so that if I like it, I can fill out the application right away.

thanks. heh. Apparently I'm a fickle, fickle girl. I'll tell you one month that we're not going to move, and the next, get excited about a new place to live. :P

It's not perfect, but in a lot of ways it'll be a step up. The area is fantastic, anyway. It is THE area. Like, when kristan was excited about living in Fremont? Like that.

Hehe.. it's ok, you have to take life as it comes at you - a month ago you didn't know you would be notified of this great opportunity.

Does it have a washer/dryer in it?

Date: 2005-05-17 04:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] freakykitten.livejournal.com
good question!

actually, probably not. there will probably be a laundry room in the building, coin laundry sort of thing. *sigh*

however, actually having one IN the building is a step up. bleargh.

Date: 2005-05-17 05:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] malaka.livejournal.com
Oh wow you have to go to a laundromat to wash your clothes? I thought you had one in the building!

Date: 2005-05-17 05:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] freakykitten.livejournal.com
no, not a laundromat... our place is set up so there are 4 complexes in a square. Each complex has two floors, and everyone has a door to outside - it's not an apartment building, exactly...

anyway, so every 2 complexes have a laundry room, but you still have to go outside to get to it. and these landlords are horrible so far as the laundry goes - in Sept they raised the laundry prices "for maintenance reasons" and then took away a washer and a dryer. For two whole complexes we have 2 washers. TWO.

Bleck.

geez! 4-plexes, it sounds like. At least you don't have to go to the laundromat, but it almost sounds like it might be more efficient to go get it all done at once.
