who knows, maybe we'll move...
May. 16th, 2005 07:45 pmI have been wandering in a daze today. Still processing yesterday's conversation, I imagine.
I did some grocery shopping on the Drive, and stopped at "The Living Source" raw cafe. I got a chai smoothie, seed/nut cheese with flax seed crackers, and a mini pizza thing. Everything was intensely tasty. I took half the cheese, more crackers, and another pizza thing to go for Andrew. I didn't even try whatever their dessert was.
And
rawrin, if you get a chance to try Larabar's "Ginger Snap" bar, DO IT. I think it's a new flavour (along with "Cocoa Mole", which I haven't tried yet) and it tastes like ginger cookie dough. It's sooooooooo goood!
Anyway, then I came home and had a nap. I didn't feel so hot. A general all around oogie feeling. Too tired, I guess.
Our new friends called me, to say that a 2 bedroom apartment opened up in their building. Since they live right near commercial drive, Andrew and I are very interested. I called the manager, and I've made an appointment to see the place on Wednesday morning at 10:30.
It seems like it's coming out of nowhere, but the idea of living closer to work and organic foods is exciting. The place will be smaller, but the 1 bdrm apartment our friends live in is actually quite spacious. And it's actually CHEAPER than where we live now - not something I expected from apartments in Vancouver.
They're renting it out for June 1st. What we're thinking is we'll pay for rent in two places for June - after all, we have to give 30 days notice at our current place anyway. This way we can paint our new place before moving anything in, and we can also move in in a leisurely fashion, AND even repaint this place, if we want (not that I think it's worth it, but...)
Anyway.
I'd miss this place, even so. It's the longest I've lived somewhere in a long time. A year and a half. That's kind of sad.
But I won't miss the many problems it has.
Unfortunately, we'll still not be able to get a dog, and I still won't get to have a garden... but overall it's an improvement. I'll get another hour (at least) in my workdays, for example.
Well, we're off to call our new friends to ask them some of our important questions (shower, water pressure, bugs, landlord, any problems, etc).

Date: 2005-05-17 03:16 am (UTC)I'm gonna look tomorrow and see if they have that at Harvest! If not, I'll go to Whole Foods on Wednesday and look. If Whole Foods doesn't...I might have to order a case.
I might even like Ginger Snap more than Cherry Pie.

Date: 2005-05-17 04:13 am (UTC)We lived in the "outskirts" for four years here in boston, but now after being right in the middle of fremont I'm not sure I could ever go back. I like city and I like remote, but anything in between is just frustrating!

Date: 2005-05-17 05:22 am (UTC)I agree, I definitely feel the same way - I want super remote, or in the city. Up until now, I've felt ok about living where we do because the money is cheaper, and we just didn't go out much... but I don't think I could handle many more days of commuting over an hour to work and back.

Wanna hang out soon? It's been forever since I've seen you. *pouts*

Date: 2005-05-17 04:27 pm (UTC)It's not perfect, but in a lot of ways it'll be a step up. The area is fantastic, anyway. It is THE area. Like, when kristan was excited about living in Fremont? Like that.

Date: 2005-05-17 04:39 pm (UTC)Does it have a washer/dryer in it?

Date: 2005-05-17 04:51 pm (UTC)actually, probably not. there will probably be a laundry room in the building, coin laundry sort of thing. *sigh*
however, actually having one IN the building is a step up. bleargh.

Date: 2005-05-17 05:33 pm (UTC)anyway, so every 2 complexes have a laundry room, but you still have to go outside to get to it. and these landlords are horrible so far as the laundry goes - in Sept they raised the laundry prices "for maintenance reasons" and then took away a washer and a dryer. For two whole complexes we have 2 washers. TWO.
Bleck.
