Read about it.
Jan. 27th, 2003 01:46 pmI realized that as much as I write, I don't write about reading.
I read all the time. I'm voracious. I read on the bus. I read at work (what a great job I have, that I can read at work!). I read while walking. I read in the bath. I read while exercising (well, on stationary bikes and things).
One summer, while I was still pre-puberty, my father had me write down every book I read. I read 200 books in 2 months. Yes, that really is 25 books a week. They used to have to force me to go outside and do things. Take books out of my hands. Punish me with "No reading!".
Nowadays I take breaks. I'll read like a crazy woman for weeks, and then not touch a book for a couple of weeks (that way I can go out, write, paint, and live).
A mark of a person I'm comfortable with is a person I'm able to read near. Just sit and read. Andrew and I can sit and read. Twine legs and ignore each other. Read quietly. I love it.
This weekend we discovered that the bookstore just around the corner from us is a REALLY REALLY REALLY good used bookstore. Orson Scott Card for just over a dollar. Books I didn't even know existed. Books I've been looking for for a long long time. Books.
Yum.
I knew I would like my manager early into my time here when (after I discussed the mystery novel I am writing) he came in one day, dumped 10 mystery books on my desk, and said "Let me know when you need more". A couple of weeks later it was Contemporary Urban Fantasy.
This weekend was a wonderful mix of reading, cooking good food, biking and walking.
I love my life.
