We had a workout yesterday, and that was nice. Back/Shoulders/Triceps.

(Gods but I love working out - lifting weights, moving my muscles, feeling the burn... I LOVE WORKING OUT)

Andrew went next door to watch Fight Club, and I had my first alone time in 2 months.

I actually used it to call my brother and talk about working out and eating and things. Since he's a personal trainer and trains so much himself, I really wanted to get some advice and see if what we're doing is good.

He gave me some really great advice. I'm going to give it a shot, starting Sunday, I think. Basically:

1) doing some cardio before breakfast is really good, because it means you'll be working off fat from the get go instead of spending 20 minutes just burning off the carbs you have in your system before you can burn off fat (since when you wake up your body is...well...empty of fuel) - what this means to me is that during the week I'm going to bike to work and eat breakfast here instead of eating breakfast first. I can't really do anything longer than that - hypoglycemia is an ugly, ugly friend.

2) eating the same low amount of calories every day is bad for the metabolism, which ends up slowing down. The best way to do it is eat an average amount of calories over a week. This way you get a splurge day once a week, and still lose weight. His suggestion for me - something like Mon - 2500 cal, Tues - 1800 cal, Wed - 1300 cal, Thurs - 1700 cal, Fri - 1500 cal, Sat - 2000 cal, Sun - 1800 cal. (although as long as the average is 1800, it doesn't matter what the actual numbers are) He said that when you eat a lot, it actually increases your metabolism, wheras when you don't eat enough, it decreases your metabolism, and it's really important to have a high metabolism to lose weight.

3) he liked our work out plan, how we've got the weights all set up for different days, and also that I'm working up to things slowly - doing weights 3 times this week and next week, and then moving up to 5 times a week. He said that's very healthy, and it's also the way he does things, small changes over time!

4) he said that when you're in training your body needs 8 to 10 hours of sleep. It has to do with needing to recuperate after work outs and stuff. He says he needs at least 8 hours of sleep, too. It's nice to know I'm not a loser, I'm just a working out sleeping well eating well wierdo.

5) he suggested cardio before bed or after dinner to increase the metabolism - we already do that (well, when the weather is nice), but it was nice to hear that it's a good thing.

6) after two weeks we're going to see if it's working, and what needs to be tweaked!

I'm excited - this sounds really fun! I'm also really excited about eating basically whatever I want for one whole day a week - I mean, 2500 calories is a LOT.

Wacky! I did not know that about calorie intake. That is good advice, though! Thanks.
