I taught another Basic Internet Class yesterday. It wasn't bad... it went a lot smoother than the first one. We had only one rank beginner, and the others were pretty much exactly the level I'd created the class for. So that was good.
One lady was a real bitch. She came in and asked a question, when everyone was coming in, (she wanted to put emoticons in her email), and when I told her it depended on what email client she used, and got distracted by the other people clamouring for my attention, she said "so you can't answer my question?" and turned to the owner (who's been proctoring my classes), and said "do you work here?" and then said "well, maybe YOU can answer my question!" and gave me a dirty look.
The owner said the same thing I said.
So this woman was a bitch for the rest of the class, she kept saying "And what in the WORLD would I use THAT for?" and etc etc etc. But I answered each question, and then the class was (thankfully) over, and she...
smiled quite prettily and thanked me for the class, and left a good review.
Wierd.
Unfortunately, I'm exhausted today. Yesterday was a work-out free day, so I should have been ok, but I guess teaching that class really takes a lot out of me, because last Thursday I felt the same way. Even after a good night's sleep (I only had to get up ONCE to pee!), I woke up feeling as if I ran a marathon yesterday. Twice.
So we're switching some non-work-out days, and today is a day off, and we'll lift on Friday and Saturday instead. It still works. And I'll be happier, and healthier, this way.
We're talking about our first big bike trip. We're thinking on the memorial day weekend we want to do our first bike camping trip. There are a couple of campsites around 40-50 miles away, which we figure would take us 4 or 5 hours to bike to.
It's REALLY exciting.
But it's all up in the air, because we need a tent (we don't even have a heavy tent, much less a tent we could carry on our bikes), sleeping bags, a campstove... well, you get the idea. And we can't really afford that. Yet. Walmart has a good sized tent for $30, but it's kinda big to put on a bike... unless we repackaged it? And their sleeping bags SUCK for space. Too big.
This Monday we're hoping to bike to the botanical gardens, wander around there, and bike back. It'll be our first "training" bike ride. A little further than what we usually do, but not nearly as far as the real thing. We won't go if it's windy or rainy though. I'm such a wuss.
Speaking of windy, this morning as I went to the bus stop it was a little cooler than it's been lately, and a little windy. I saw some white things in the air, and I automatically thought "snow", since that's what it would have been in Ontario, but then I looked a little harder... and they're white blossoms that have been blown off the trees.
I missed my Bear-cat doing something really cute yesterday.
Apparently Bear was outside when the postman came. Andrew looked out the window to see if his birthday package from his parents had come, and he saw the postman close the door to his truck and go around the back of it... and then he saw a little black kitten head pop up inside the truck, on one side... and then pop up on the other side of the truck.
I guess Bear had run into the truck when the postman wasn't looking, and then got shut in there. Andrew went to get him, and the postman said "You know, that's a felony!" chuckle chuckle chuckle.
I'm just glad they found him before the postman drove off! AND that he wasn't under the wheels when the postman drove off.
My uber-curious cat. So cute. I wish I'd seen it.

Date: 2003-03-27 11:30 am (UTC)What exactly was the felony? A cat in a mail truck? They actually have a law that covers that scenario? Or was it Andrew opening the door to rescue Bear?

Date: 2003-03-27 04:22 pm (UTC)1.) It's REALLY hard work; and
2.) There's often no way to tell how effectively what you teach is sinking in. May you never have to teach something as subjective as writing... ;)

Date: 2003-03-28 09:14 am (UTC)Yeah, all my teaching in the past has been karate and self defense. It's really easy to tell if the class is picking it up, AND it's really easy to intimidate them into submission. :P

I'm sorry! I'll get it right this time!
