I want this house.

Andrew thinks I'm being cute, but if he were as enthused as I, I'd be talking to a mortgage person on Monday to find out how to start the process.

I KNOW. I think the only thing (at least from the photos) I'd want to change is that window by the bathtub - the stained glass looks tacky. But the baths I'd have!

mmhmm but the shape of that window is great.

do you think you guys will end up moving to the interior eventually? i've heard you talk about it before?

Yeah, I'd just change the glass, not the shape. For sure.

I dunno. At this rate, we're going to be in Vancouver long term. I mean, we've got a great community here, you know? It took years to build, and we're making new good friends all the time, and I can walk down the street and end up stopping to chat with someone I know, and there are people here raising their children the way I want to raise mine, and people to keep me honest, and a lot of good food and good shows (even if I don't go to them NOW, I'll be going to them again later), and...

So yeah. Vancouver has a lot going for it. It's just that I do want to own. And housing is incredibly expensive to live in Vancouver proper.

We haven't given up on the idea of living in the suburbs, but of course there's the whole suburban living thing that we want to avoid. Surrey near where [livejournal.com profile] zaftigvegan lives is an option, but I don't really want a strata and I DO want a large garden, which isn't possible there (it's townhouses).

If we decide to stay in Van, we might have to give up the dream of owning... I dunno! But dreaming is awfully fun sometimes.

you forget that if there were more of us, we could have a coup d'etat on this strata! take over! by force! and make this place AWESOME.

omigod. totally. I somehow thought that this was some way of referring to part of Nelson that I didn't know about! Duh.

I think it looks like a gingerbread house, a bit, especially in that winter photo...

OMG I love it.. the house, the gardens.. beautiful, like a painting! I guess Andrew isn't enthused because it's out in the country somewhere?

Yeah, it's quite a few hours from here. 12 or so, I think. But really, he doesn't see us moving any time soon, with his awesome job here, and finishing his apprenticeship, and our savings being such as they are. I agree with him, but sometimes...

WOW! I love the garden and the scenery. Awesome area!

We watched a show this past weekend that had some homes in Canada and one was a suburban house and the other was on the lake. (Naturally I loved the lake house and Mel loved the Suburban one.)

Honestly, if we had the suburban house on the lake property that would have been cool. AND THE PRICE WAS JUST WOW! Not bad at all.

I say keep on him and go check it out at least. Wouldn't hurt and maybe it would get him in the mood to check it out further. :-)

Uh, buying a house now?

You could save some time and hassle by just taking a pile of $100s and firing them through a paper shredder.

Wait a year or 2, you'll save more than you pay annually in rent. I think a 30% drop in house prices in Canada in the next 3 years is quite likely.

*sigh*

Paul, ever heard of daydreams?

There's no way we're buying now.

I should say, too, that although I appreciate your theory on housing prices, it is really a pet theory of yours, because you mention it a lot. This is not the first post of mine you've commented on in this vein. I get it. Please stop telling me not to buy a house right now.

Not that we have ourselves set up to do so anyway. ;)

Yeah, I hear ya on that. I mean, I do think it's better to wait, but Lesley and I are the same. Buying a house right now, short of a lottery win, is a daydream at best...

Ahhh, lovely.

It really has a lot of charm...:) I would hate the amount of work it would take to keep up the awesome landscaping (you'd have to, it would be a travesty to let it get overgrown and ugly), but it's very nice.

How'd you find it? Just browsing the 'net or?

Oh, see, I love working in the garden! So that part would be fun for me. Especially since I wouldn't be working if we lived there. ;)

There's a site we keep an eye on, mostly for daydreaming purposes... it has places for sale with acreage anywhere in British Columbia, because that's what we want - a place with space.
