Another personality defining moment:

One summer day on my way to work, a woman came up to me and asked me where the women's shelter was. I pointed her on her way and we chatted a little bit, and she at NO POINT asked me for money. She was upset and said that she'd just left her partner/husband, who was abusive (she pulled up her shirt sleeve and I saw many a bruise), and she got here and someone stole her wallet and she was just so upset but she really didn't want to go back to him...

Now the important thing is that in Toronto, NO panhandler gives you a reason when they ask for change. Everyone here seems to have a story, but not in Toronto. They just ask for change.

She never asked me for money. But she was really upset. I didn't have ANY money on me, so I took her to a bank machine, got out $20 and gave it to her.

She cried.

She asked me how she could possibly pay me back, did I want to give her my address or something? And I said, no, just do something for someone when you're on your feet.

Theoretically, she could have been panhandling, but I don't care.

I have never regretted that.

Got woken up again by the pager at 6:30 this morning. Our mail server was down. Dayum. Luckily we'd gone to bed early last night to make up for me getting up early yesterday morning from many pages then.

Also luckily, I get paid for this.

Yesterday we went grocery shopping, got tons and tons of food, and paid only $50 for it. Life is GOOD. An 18% discount rocks my world SO hard.

I don't have a lot to say at the moment. I'm applying for a couple of jobs today, building a CD for caric, Andrew's doing some handyman type work today and tomorrow, and we have a mega-workout tonight.

It's all good.
