This is a distilled version of "things about me" that I wrote in my diary last April.

1. I'm super sensitive to caffeine. I can have some, but large quantities makes me throw up. Ecstacy also makes me throw up. I didn't realize that was because Ecstacy is also a stimulant until a year and a half ago. Obviously, I try to stay away from all stimulants.

2. My first boyfriend is my best friend. He and I dated for 3.5 years. I can tell him anything.

3. I've dated (seriously) 3 boys. All three have names that start with A. (Aaron, Alex, and Andrew)

4. I hate celery. I don't like the taste or the stringy bits. It's ok when it's cut up small and put in tuna sandwiches though. But when it's cooked, I ALWAYS take it out of whatever I'm eating.

5. I love fish and seafood of all sorts. Except anchovies.

6. I saw E.T for the first time when it came out, 21 years ago. It gave me nightmares. I didn't see it after that until a year ago. I loved it.

7. My whole family started training in Goju Ryu Karate Do when I was 7. When I was 13 our family moved, where my parents started teaching at their own karate clubs. I got my 1st degree black belt when I was 18. I stopped training when I was 20ish. Both my parents still teach martial arts, in different cities. Their styles have diverged.

8. The only bone I have ever broken was my nose. I was 17 and got kicked in the face in a karate class. My Dad was teaching it. My Mom took me to the hospital. My nose was fractured vertically, so I don't have a bump or anything.

9. I haven't slept through the night for at least 5 years. Whenever I wake up, I always have to go pee or else I won't be able to go to sleep again.

10. When I was in public school we didn't have a tv. From age 4 to age 12. I think that's awesome. I got to do lots of other things instead. Nowadays I don't have cable, but I do have a tv. Sometimes I spend the whole night watching crap, but most of the time I spend my time more wisely.

11. When we were young my brother and I used to pool our money on weekends and go to a flower store on the way back from karate class and ask what we could get for... whatever we had (0.75, that sort of thing). The woman was always really nice and gave us daisies and nice little bunches of flowers, so we could give them to our mom. One day the woman was gone, so we had to stop.

12. When the Easter Bunny gave us candy, I always got white chocolate stuff. I didn't like chocolate when I was younger. (I think it has to do with my caffiene allergy) I used to make my easter candy last the whole year.

13. We never went Trick or Treating for Halloween. My parents were afraid we'd get bad candy from bad people. So we had halloween parties instead. I sort of remember them, but what I remember the most is us kids hiding in the house with my mom one halloween, eating kraft dinner with weenies, in the dark, so kids wouldn't trick or treat at our house.

14. When I was in grade school I had a friend (I don't remember her name though, I think it was Kristy or Nicky). She jumped off a high thing in the playground and broke her back. She told her parents that these two boys pushed her, because she didn't want to get in trouble. My mom made me go see her, and give her kissable barbie (she had lipstick that you could put on her lips, and when you pressed her back she'd kiss whatever you put in front of her, and leave a tiny little kiss mark, and then lipstick for you). I wanted kissable barbie too, but I never got her. My friend told me she didn't get pushed, she jumped. I told my mom (I didn't know any better). She told my friend's parents. They moved, not long after.

15. I was always "the smart one" in school. In grade school the kids called me brainiac (or in fake latin, brainiacus supremus), and the teachers kept giving me IQ tests. They wanted to send me to a gifted kids school, but my mom didn't let them, because she didn't want me to be ostracized even more than I was. I still don't know if I agree with that. I see her point but I think the school could have challenged me. On the other hand, I don't regret anything I did, schooling wise, so it probably doesn't matter.

16. When I was 12 my entire family turned vegetarian. Except we still ate fish every once in awhile. When I was in university I stuck to it. Now I've turned completely to the dark side, and I eat whatever meat I feel like, whenever I feel like. It just happens that it's usually fish, and sometimes poultry. I just plain old don't like beef, unless I'm in the mood for something like steak or roast beef.

17. I have a degree in Mathematics, with an option in Women's Studies. I want to go to school again so I can be a therapist.

18. I don't like busy patterns. I prefer solid colours or minimilistic patterns. As a result, I tend to wear solid colours, no ruffles, no laces, no flounces, and very little buttons or collars. I think that's weird, but it makes me feel good.

19. I have bad eyesight. My brain doesn't recognise the signals from one of my eyes, so my left eye does most of the work, even when I have glasses on, or contacts. I can always see the left side of my nose, because my left eye is always turned in a little because the right eye needs the extra help.

20. I sleep best when someone is in the bed with me. Otherwise I get paranoid, thinking there's people in the mirror who will get angry at me if I look at them, and come out and kill me, or I think there's someone in the apartment who's come to get me, or other paranoid thoughts. My imagination runs rampant when I'm half asleep. I still will lie very very still and pretend I'm asleep, so the monsters can't get me. It works.

21. When I was 3 I had a recurring nightmare that a clock was ticking on the wall. I cried and screamed until my mother came and picked me up and took care of me. To this day I can't stand the sound of a clock ticking if I'm trying to relax or sleep.

22. When I was growing up, to punish me, my parents would tell me I wasn't allowed to read anything. It worked.

23. In the summer before high school I got strep throat. I didn't tell anyone, because I didn't want to be a wimp. By the time I told someone, my throat was so bad that even swallowing my own spit hurt a LOT. And my throat had all these white things hanging off of it. It was disgusting.

24. In the summer between 2nd and 3rd year university I got really sick. Again, I didn't see the doctor until it got really bad. Then she told me my eardrums were about to burst, and I had bronchitis and pneumonia. She put me on 2 different inhalers and an antibiotic. Once I realized I was sick, I let myself rest. I was in bed for 2 weeks. I was so tired that walking up one flight of stairs to the bathroom and then back down required a nap to recover.

25. I have asthma. I first noticed it when I was in high school. We didn't know what it was. My mother would feed me all sorts of cough syrups. I used to carry around cough syrup and drink from the bottle when I was coughing.

26. Once, when I was in 3rd year of university, I passed out in the shower in the gym I attended. It was because I was sick, had used my inhaler, and then went into the whirlpool. It took a really long time for me to pass out. I lost my sight first. I called for help, and then fell down. The girl who came to check on me thought I had low blood sugar. I was insulted.

27. I am hypoglycemic. It runs in the family, both my parents have it mildly. I regulate it with healthy food and exercise. I don't even notice it anymore, except when I'm so hungry I'm nauseated. I also use it as an excuse when I'm hungry and am tired of waiting to eat.

28. I love to put on a movie while working around the house. I've watched lots of movies while cleaning, or cooking, or working out. It's my favorite way to watch tv, or else I get antsy and feel like I should be doing something. I'm really bad at relaxing. I always think I should be doing something.

29. I have a dream of going on a walkabout. I want to wander around North America, visit friends, and see neat things and neat places. Andrew thinks it's a good idea, so we're going to do it together. Right now we're looking at walking The Bruce Trail - an 800 km trail in Ontario.

30. I don't like mixing flavours. I can't stand it when things on my plate touch other things on my plate. I don't mind when it's certain things, though, like hummus mixing with tabouli.

31. When I was young, our kitchen was yellow, with pretty curtains. I still think fondly of that kitchen. I'd like a homey kitchen of my own. Apartments always have small kitchens, with attached dining rooms. I want a big kitchen you can eat in. I think the kitchen is the homiest part of the house, since it's always warm and has good smells in it.

32. I want a room that has bookshelves all over, filled with books. I have a bunch of books. I would have more but I stopped buying them (I still buy, once in awhile) in University, because I had no space and no room.

33. I love bubble baths and whirlpools and things. My perfect home, along with having a big homey kitchen, and a book room, would have a huge tub in the bathroom that can fit two people, is deep, and has jets in it. It would also have an outdoor hot tub.

34. I rarely wear perfumes because they give me a headache. I also get headaches if I have to spend time with people (even just 30 seconds riding in an elevator) who wear a lot of scent. Even so, I own 3 or 4 different scents. They're all natural scents, and I use them very rarely. They're musky smells, like sandalwood. And I burn incense in my home, although I use organic incense mostly. Only certain incense gives me headaches.

35. When I was 8 there was a huge windstorm. I went to the store to get milk. When I got back the tree from our backyard had crashed into our house. It demolished the roof and wall of one of the rooms. No-one was hurt.

36. The first book I ever didn't finish was "A Little Princess". It was too sad and I was so sad for the little girl I just couldn't keep going. I re-read it several years later. Apparently I put it down right before it gets better again.

37. When I graduated high school, I won so many awards that they put a chair for me behind the award table so I wouldn't have to walk all the way back to my seat and then back to get the next award. When I got the overall best in school award, my favorite math teacher kissed me on the lips. I grimaced.

38. When my mother was pregnant with me, she wanted so desperately to have a little girl, she was afraid to hope for it, because she didn't want to be disappointed. She was really really really REALLY happy when I turned out to be a girl.

39. When I'm in love I have no problems saying forever. "I love you forever" is how I feel. That's how I know I was in love with Aaron and I'm in love with Andrew.

I also wrote a "50 things I like about me" thing, way back when, but I think I'll actually re-write that one, instead of finding the old one. It's good to re-do those every once in awhile. So don't worry, I'm accepting your challenge, I'm just a little slow!

I've wanted a yellow kitchen since I was six. My best friend, Michelle, lived in an apartment which had a yellow kitchen. It also had big windows which overlooked the Game Reserve. An ex-girlfriend told me that yellow is bad feng shui for a kitchen. I don't think I care. A yellow kitchen screams happy and homey to me! Big windows and lots of plants, too!

I'm thinking of painting my kitchen in the new condo yellow.
