We're here!

The drive was (happily) uneventful. I got a cold on the first day, a really BAD cold, but Andrew got me some Contac C, and that made everything jusssst fine. We got to the border at 3:30pm on Sunday, waited in line for 1/2 hour, and spoke to the customs guard for literally !!2!! minutes before she waved us through. She didn't even ask us to open up the back of the truck!

All week we've been trying to get our apartment (which is cute and nice) together. The kitchen we've painted a bright sunflower yellow (all cupboards are a lighter yellow, all accents are white), the bedroom a dark green (we're going to put a mottled lighter green over that, with darkest green and gold highlights, to make the effect of a forest), he's building shelves (LOTS of shelves) and staining them a delightful medium walnut...

We're not really unpacked, but we're unpacking each room as we finish it.

Everything is really coming together. I'm thrilled with where we're living - it's a lower rent area, with neighbours who talk to us and children everywhere. My new chiropractor is an old classmate of my old chiropractor in Toronto, who was my favorite ever, and he has already impressed me. Plus, his puppy comes to the office with him. There's an awesome organic grocery delivery service Small Potatos that we've joined, and the bureacracy here is much more laid back than I expected.

I love it. LOVE IT.

I start work on Monday. We went shopping for an ENTIRE DAY this week, and I now have some clothes that are suitable for work. I'll probably need more. I've been sleeping a lot.

I'm home, and I'm happy.

(I'm trying to catch up on everyone's news... but I'm at an internet cafe, so it might take a couple of weeks, really...)

I've always had an easy time entering Canada, except for the one time a guard tried to convince me that taking a rental car to the US was illegal.

I'm glad you guys made it to Vancouver safely. It sounds like this is a really good change for you.

We're in Burnaby. Right near the border of New Westminster. That's the south-eastern part.
