bachelorette
Oct. 3rd, 2003 10:45 amThe woman next to me is getting help from her technical lead. It doesn't matter if they were to whisper, I won't be able to concentrate until they're finished.
And so, the perfect time to write an entry!
Andrew left, he's gone. He got up at 3am to get to his cab at 3:30 to get to the airport by 4, so he could go through customs and all the rest of it by 6, when his flight leaves. I have no doubt he spent at least an hour of that waiting for his plane to arrive, but when it comes to flights, we both agree it's nicer to wait than rush. (I had to rush for a plane once, and it was HORRIBLE)
He's gone!
It took me a long time to get back to sleep after he left, and I woke up just a little groggy this morning. I'm looking forward to having this time, like I said before. Tonight I plan to nap. Oooh, and have a bath. This weekend, I believe, will be more of the same. Plus I'm going to make cabbage rolls with lentils in 'em. And work out. Ooh, and finally call all the people I owe calls to.
I'm going to miss him, though.
The past two mornings have been foggy. I love the fog (I'm sure I'd love it less if I had to drive). Somehow, I can smell the fallen leaves more when it's foggy. Everything is just a little more magical in the fog, and I love the cool slightly damp air. Fog is part of fall, for me. (and we all know just how much I love fall!)
My experience at the eye doctor was positive yesterday. A good customer service experience after all. It appears that my right eye needs a "prism" in the lens, which is what my current glasses have. He fiddled with that for a minute, and he'll have to re-grind that lens, and I should get a call on Monday or Tuesday to let me know they're ready. He was able to get the "chip" off the lens (it wasn't a chip, just something really strongly on there that I couldn't get off), and they'll fix the wonky frame arm when I come in for my refitting.
I'm a little bit concerned because he didn't check more than one prism type - he put one in front of my eye, said "is this better"? And didn't check another to make comparison.
That's fine. If he was lazy again, I'll just go back again. Annoying, yes. But fine.
Then Andrew met me there and we went out for Indian food. A FANTASTIC place, just brilliant. The Patak Paneer was stunning, the garlic naan was delish, the chicken pakoras were intense, the kheer was a perfect dessert, and the chai was, of course, fantastic. It's the kind of place I like - intimate, dim lighting with candles, warm, with good service. We'll be going back there again (PLUS they have a lunch buffet for 6.95, that the waitress says is the BOMB)
Afterwards we walked home, and decided to stop into a used book/cd/vhs/dvd store to see what they had, and maybe get Andrew some books for his flights to and from Providence. A teenage girl was working there, and her boyfriend had come to collect her. He walked in and immediately started talking to Andrew about this guy named "Wolf" who does piercings and tattoos out of his apartment for cheap, and that Andrew should go with the kid on Monday, cuz he's going to get his tongue done and his friend is going to get his nipples done, and he said he didn't get a PA because "when they told me it would bleed for 7 days I got freaked out".
Yeah.
Hoo-boy.
While Andrew was busy with the boy, I quickly picked up 3 books for him to read (he's easy to pick for - if it's got martial arts, or good vs evil, or a man-on-a-quest, it'll work - hell, he enjoys my cheesy girl-on-a-quest fantasy stuff too). I'd like to go through and check out their selection again, we didn't get much time, but I have a feeling they'll be better for cd's and dvds. Three books came to 7.50. That's not so terrif.
But anyway. We walked away from the kid, with Andrew saying he didn't have much money and he'd see what he could do, shaking with silent laughter. I didn't want to bruise this child's fragile ego, but MAN. Wolf. Cheap piercings (when I asked why wolf pierced so cheaply, he said "because he doesn't see the point of charging so much money for 5 minutes of work" which is a great sentiment, that I don't trust one whit. My first thought was "yeah, but does he actually sterilize his gear, or his apartment?", never mind the second, third, and fourth thoughts. If the kid wasn't so laughable, I might have checked it out - I'd love to support a local non-capitalist artist like that.)
