I *think* hanging out with Suzanne and her boy last night was good. I really like seeing Suzanne, but with her boy, who I've only met twice now, it's really hard to tell whether he finds me abrasive, or boring, or both.

I got home about 45 minutes before they came over, changed, but probably shouldn't have because I just felt messy and fat the whole night. At least in my work clothes I feel like you can see my weight loss. Andrew had REALLY made the house look good, so I only had to brush the cats (Suzanne's allergic to cats), dust a bit, wipe down a table or two, and that was it.

We exchanged presents before dinner. Suzanne was mighty pleased with the Vegan Cookbook I got her ("The Garden of Vegan: How it all Vegan Again" - she has "How it all Vegan"), and she liked the graphic novel I got her for her birthday (The Spiral Cage). Both boys got clever notebooks, which I thought was funny. And she gave me the sweetest blue vase with a bubble in the bottom! It's gorgeous, and I haven't the foggiest idea where I'll put it.

Dinner was EXQUISITE. Portabello mushrooms and onions baked in an almond gravy that was the shiznit, I'm serious. And roasted potatos and garlic swiss chard. With vegan chocolate pudding that I made the night before, for dessert (which firmed up wonderfully....mmmm YUM).

Afterwards we just sat around and talked, and that was nice. I don't think we talked about anything smart though, we just gabbed about our pasts and things. (Hence my concern that I appear abrasive and boring)

They left around 10, and Andrew and I ate popcorn and watched a bit of tv before bed. I didn't get to sleep until about an hour after bedtime, because I was stressed out.

I REALLY need the time off I'll have at Christmas and New Years.

Today I'm at work only for 3 or so hours, then I have to:

  • Buy bus tickets to Kelowna to visit Andrew's family for New Years

  • Meet Suzanne downtown for sushi

  • Hang out with Suzanne (I think we're going to Granville Island) while buying:

    1. A jade plant for our sushi people

    2. Stocking stuffers for Andrew

    3. $100 worth of toys for children

And finding somewhere that sells GOOD croissants, because Andrew wants croissants for Christmas. Obviously I can't buy the croissants today, because then they'd be super stale on Christmas... but if I can FIND them, then things can be done on Christmas Eve.

I'm hoping I have fun. Her boy is going to meet up with us during the afternoon. I know it's just a process to get to know someone, but damn... he's hard to get to know. He makes Suzanne happy, but so many men have hurt her in the past that I'm antsy. It's like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, and I'm uncomfortable as a result.

Good gravy...
