in which I live
Dec. 23rd, 2003 10:19 amI suppose a good employee would be very productive today.
I guess that means I'm not a good employee...
I'm so unreasonably excited about Christmas. Ever since Andrew and I have been together, it's been like this. Last year I woke him up EARLY. Like, 5am early.
He figures I'll be worse than our children, when we have them. He's probably right. It's like the night before my birthday... I have trouble sleeping then, too.
I'd fallen away from that, before him. He lets me be my childish self, and it's wonderful.
I know it's unreasonable, because we only have a couple of days together alone over the holiday, and it's ONLY 4 days off in a row for me, but I'm going to work from home one of those days (he works Saturday evening and probably Sunday, too, anyway), because then we're taking off the 31st to the 4th to see his family - which, although his family is really nice, won't be the same as lazing around the house, just us.
(As a result, I've asked him if we can go back on the 3rd, and have the evening of the 3rd and all of the 4th together, before the usual non-holiday work ensues - he agreed, which really means a lot to me).
So yeah, but I'm STILL excited anyway. I'm afraid I didn't get him enough presents though. His presents for me are taking up !!3!! areas! My presents for him are all in one closet... I think he used his allotted money more effectively than I did. I don't want him to be disappointed. :( (plus I want the present opening to take a long time... cuz I'm a goof!)
The kittens have been exploring the tree far more than they did last year. Last year, nary a branch was moved on the tree. None of the ornaments were touched - although the kittens did like to drink from the tree water.
This year, every day we come home there's another ornament that has to be collected off the floor and replaced, HIGHER on the tree. Balls, a horse, our beaded gold heart... the lights have been somehow moved off the edge of the tree, and on Sunday I had to rescue the little star garland from the white girl. She's such a hunter!!
But nothing has been broken. NOTHING! I'm so impressed. I don't mind putting things back together, when I don't have to sweep shards of glass off the carpet.
Hmmm. Maybe it's good to have carpet after all...
The solstice lantern walk was fantastic last night. Even better, we were home just after 8, and got to unwind before bed.
It was a small affair, we walked through some city streets with lanterns in hand (well, other people had lanterns... we'll have lanterns next time!), to the chinese gardens, where a guy was playing saxaphone in the pagoda, and there were lights on the path and in the trees and on the ponds... it was gorgeous.
After wandering around for awhile, we went to a chinese bakery and got yummy pastries and ate them while we walked back to the skytrain.
AND on the way to the skytrain, we found the Cobalt! We've been wanting to check it out, it's a punk bar here we've been told is the shiznit, but we didn't know where it was. Sweet.
I love putting together the puzzle pieces of a place in which I live...
